March 2013

Hey guys! Since it is the end of March, I thought I’d share a bit of what I’ve been up to this month.

I was lucky enough to be the photographer for Midnight Moon Moonshine’s new campaign. The masculine, vintage, and textured asthetic they asked for was music to my ears. This was the result.

I was recently commissioned to take photos for what will become the packaging for 3 different products: olive oil, seed oils (sesame and flax seed), and a box of herbs and spices. The oils and spices being sold are artisan products from Jordan. It was important that the images convey that these are handmade and unique items- not your average bottle of oil.

I’m going through a gold phase so I couldn’t help myself…

Finally, the cover of Isa’s new book Isa Does It came out! The photo was taken by me and the design was done by the talented folks over at Little, Brown & Co. This photo shoot with Isa was crazy fun.

Are you guys on Behance? I’ve been on it for awhile but haven’t been great about updating it. I’m trying to get better about it. Follow me and I’ll follow you back!

Las Vegas, “IT’S HOT AS HELL!”

I recently went to Las Vegas for the SAVEUR Magazine food blog awards. Vegas is, well, interesting. But the bloggers and folks from SAVEUR mag that I met there made the trip totally worthwhile. I finally got around to looking at some of the photos I took while I was there and thought I’d share them with you guys.

A huge thank you to SAVEUR Magazine for making this happen. Especially Helen and Kristin!

A big hug to all the badass bloggers I met:

Sorry if I left anyone out! It was a whirlwind.

Roy (the boyfriend) and I woke up at 4:30 am so I could get some photos of the Vegas strip while it was empty and bathed in morning light. Roy is a trooper. <3

January 2013 – Whew!

Hello everyone! Happy 2013! Wow, this year could not have started off any better. Once again, I’ve been too swamped with work to create content for the blog so I thought I’d share what I’ve been up to lately.

First, some exciting news! I’ve been nominated for Best Food Photographer by the [Framed] Awards. Today is the last day to vote. Take a minute to vote if you feel like it. =) Be sure to spend some time looking at the featured artists. Some incredible talent here.

Most of January was dedicated to finishing up the photographs for Isa Chandra’s new cookbook “Isa Does It.” I’ve had so much fun working on her cookbook. I’m sad that the project is coming to an end. Here are a few of my favorite shots:

I also squeezed in a shoot for a flower and candy company called H.Bloom. Imagine these photos as the background of an iPhone application. =)

I did a shoot for a magazine but they ended up not being able to use this image because of a concept change. I’m bummed about it so I’m going to share it here to try to make up for it. =)

And finally, here is a photo of mine that is in the most recent issue of BUST magazine.

I think I’m going through and overhead photo phase…

Till next time! xo.

Happy Holidays

Wow, what a crazy time of year. Things have been a bit too nuts for me to create new content for the blog so I thought I’d share what I’ve been up to lately.

I’ve been lucky enough to do the editorial, product, and portrait photos for a new bakery called Mah-Ze-Dhar. The bakery is owned by an incredibly talented woman named Umber Ahmad and backed by Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio. Below are a few of the photos from the Mah-Ze-Dhar shoot.

A few of my photos are in the most recent issue of BUST magazine. I know I say this all the time, but they are the best. I love BUST.

I recently wrapped a shoot for a dating website called How About We. Here are just two photos from that shoot:

A shot for a book cover about women and hard liquor. This book is going to be amazing! I will keep you posted when it comes out. =)

Pizzelles

This post is inspired by my grandma, “Grandma Rees” we called her. She would make my brother, sister, and I pizzelles when we visited.

Today’s post is not just a recipe as per usual. I’ve decided to turn the image above into a holiday card and do a giveaway. These cards say “Happy Holidays” on the front & the cookie recipe is on the inside. They are mighty cute if I may say so myself.

On December 1st I will choose 5 people to win a set of 15 cards. To eneter the giveaway, simply go to this address, click the “enter sweepstakes” button, and fill out the form. You must provide an email address so that I can contact you if you win. I can promise you that I will never use your email address for anything other than this giveaway. =)

This reciepe was adapted from Vegan Feast Kitchen’s recipe.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/3 cup Earth Balance, melted (earth balance is a healthy margarine)
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 Tbs pure almond extract (vanilla extract works fine too)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 3/4 cup unbleached white flour
  • 1 very small pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbs lemon juice
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using the “s” blade, combine all the ingredients (except the powdered sugar for dusting) in a food processor or a Vitamix.
  2. Heat up the electric pizzelle iron according the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Spray the pizzelle iron with some oil.
  4. When the iron is ready, add 1 Tbs of batter to the center of each cookie. The amount of batter you need will vary depending on which iron you have.
  5. Close the iron and let it cook for a little less than a minute.
  6. Remove the cookies from the iron and sift powdered sugar over them.
  7. Store in a air tight container until ready to eat.

Dont forget to enter the card giveaway.
